Decontamination
Many construction companies
do not consider or are not concerned regarding the
contamination of data centres, communication rooms and
equipment during construction. They just build the room and
worry about the cleaning at the end of the building
project lifecycle.
To enable project completion by handover
date, many tasks must be completed simultaneously. This leads
to equipment being installed in an environment that is not
suitable, which then leads to severe contamination of the
equipment. Most times the equipment is brand new prior to
installation and by practical completion of the
project the equipment is in very poor condition. If
warranty service is required due to issues, the
contamination level may lead to the warranty being voided
on effectively brand new equipment.
This equipment represents a significant
investment by the end client and should be treated as such.
Otherwise there will be a large restoration cost involved to
return the equipment to
original condition.
Another factor
to be considered is upon completed there will be areas of
the rooms that are unable to be accessed to be properly
decontaminated. This can only be avoided by periodic cleaning
throughout the construction project.
